It was incredibly suspenseful and at points nerve-racking, anticipating terrible outcomes at every turn! I became invested in several of the characters ( Mohamed Taferi, Nassif, even Al-Golani and Andriy Makarenko and a few others) and was almost afraid to find out what the final outcome was for them. That is the hallmark of a truly gifted writer. To ensnare you into being emotionally involved in the story! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from paula tyler -- Thrilling, heartbreaking, exciting and a very good story! : Stephen England has written another book in this series (a prequel series to his Shadow Warriors series) and again has written what should be a bestseller. I began reading Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy a very long time ago and I find Stephen to be a better storyteller than either of these classic spy thriller authors. He adds just enough technology, and weaponry to his stories without being overly advanced or boring with long descriptions. I believe everyone should read everything Stephen has written. The Americans learn that the Russians' new Su-57 stealth fighter has deployed to Khmeimim air base for tests, and they approach the Israelis with a proposition. An undercover Mossad agent, a Druze Arab embedded in a Syrian rebel group, is tasked with organizing an assault on the base as cover to steal sensitive electronic systems from the fighter. The story eventually comes to involve a vast cast of characters on all sides, whose paths will eventually intersect. The main focus is on Mohammed Taferi's perilous trek across war-ravaged Syria as his entourage work their way toward Khmeimim. Along the way, they face air strikes, Syrian special forces in pursuit, internal feuds, rival rebel factions, infighting among the intelligence agencies, and complications abroad that threaten to compromise the mission, and it seems that Taferi is surrounded by variables conspiring against him at every step of the way. Readers will hope that Taferi survives so that they may see more of him in future stories. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )

It’s seeps through the author’s words & creates the backdrop to an espionage thriller of note. His sharp writing style keeps you totally engaged and on the edge of your seat through this nerve-racking dash to the ultimate goal. Just brilliant!! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jeff Benham -- What a perfect title for this book : David Shafron is the former Isreali assassin known as The Lion Of God. Now he is a operative for Mossad. Mohamed Taferi, a Mossad agent is trapped in Syria, which seems to be having a bit of a civil war. David needs to get him out. The CIA is supposed to be helping. Right. Things go sideways and he is told to leave Taferi where he is. Seems the Russians have developed an advanced Su-57 fighter jet and Syria is a good spot to test it. Shafron goes against orders and Taferi isn't just sitting on his thumbs waiting to get rescued. Very interesting read! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
