From the cover to the gorgeous full color photos, this book is beautiful. I am a fan of Chinoiserie, and this really covers a wide gamut on the subject. I have not read the copy, and probably will not for some time, but as far as eye-candy goes this book will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth for beautiful design. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from abacus12345 -- Falls between two stools? : A nice and highly illustrated coffee table book. Somewhat crisper and less shiny images would have been better but I suppose it depends what light you are in. Gallops with authority and verve through the long and complex tale of chinoiserie, but it is all summary and no detail. I would have preferred fewer pictures and more words. So it isn't quite the sumptuous visual treat one might wish it to be for the coffee table, nor a detailed explanation of its subject matter that sits on the bookshelf to be reread and referred to. Am I being too harsh? Maybe I am, it is a beautiful book by an expert and all at a good price, but I think this author probably possesses a lot more knowledge to share....so I hope his next book has far more words. Have given three stars on my personal scale which means "good, a book I appreciate and that merits its place on a bookshelf"....I think 4 is for a book that is loved and 5 is for a book you refuse to lend to anyone.
